I can say that it was not only the moment I started to ship them, but also the moment I fell in love with a show itself. It was the first time I realized how epic and selfless their love was. And what is most important, I finally saw who the brothers actually were. What have we seen before? Dean, an older brother, handsome, a little bit rude, guy with no-chick-flick-moments rule. Sam, a baby bro, grieving about his girlfriend, soft and emo. What did we see in this ep? Sam, forgetting about everything, about his dead girlfriend and lost father, because his brother needed him. Because he can’t live without his brother. He didn’t get used to take care about Dean, look at 4th gif. He’s clumsy, he doesn’t know where to put his hands, but he is here, doing everything possible and impossible to find a way to save his brother. And not least, look at Dean. Do you think he wasn’t scared? Hell he was. He didn’t want to die, he was afraid of all this situation, but he kept the facade for Sam’s sake. He was calm and soft, he was comforting his little brother on his dying bed.
And it was the moment I realized it was gonna be a one epic and the most amazing story about people who love each other more than everything in the world, and their love can even beat the death.

Sam is so overwhelmingly relieved to see that Dean is okay because, when he jumped into the pit, resigned to never walking in the sunlight again, the very last thing he saw was Dean’s face completely pulverized by his own fists. But then he woke up to an all too familiar view of the slowly rotating fan in the ceiling of Bobby’s panic room and heard the echoes of Dean’s voice from upstairs. For him, not a moment had gone by and he’s just so grateful that Dean is okay, whatever rescued him comes second. And for Dean, he’s cautious at first. He’s been burned before 6 months prior when he hugged an empty shell of his brother. But he feels Sam’s arms tighten around him like they always have before, and he feels Sam’s heartbeat racing unlike how it never did when he had no soul, and he feels Sam’s heavy breaths over his shoulder, and he just knows that it’s Sam this time. Because he’s finally whole again.
This line in particular – “whatever we have between us– love, family, whatever it is” – indicates Dean’s inability to classify their relationship. He is acknowledging that their mantra of ‘family’ is not the whole truth of what they are. He cannot define it, but he recognises that it is something which can be construed as destructive – a notion which is echoed time and time again.
